New details of the BNO visa are great news for Hong Kongers. An announcement today confirmed that the BNO visa route will be open for applications from 31 January 2021 and there will be NO limit on numbers.

The cost of the visa is surprisingly low: a visa for the the full five-year process will cost only £250 per person. A 30-month visa will be only £180 per person. Applicants will still have to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge and show they can support themselves for at least six months. Applicants will be able to study and to work in “almost any role” consistent with UK employment law and having the right skills and qualifications. Anyone holding BNO status is eligible as are their family members and dependants, provided they are usually resident in Hong Kong.
